Little People of the Fisher-Price Clan

I'm scared for myself right now.  I'm thinking I want to collect vintage Fisher Price Little People.

See... of ALL the toys I grew up with, the Fisher Price Little People were my favorite.  When I FIRST got them, the bodies were made of wood, then they went to plastic.  Now, the Little People are no more... I mean... not as we knew them... seems the People were so Little, they could block a windpipe and kill a kid or something.  Good thing I never put anything in my mouth when I was kid (yeah right.)

See, this might be a shock to everyone, but I was a touch on the spoiled side growing up.  I had TOYS, baby!  And I had lots of Little People.  I learned my first cuss words listening to my Dad step on those things, because you could positively hide 'em in the shag carpet of my youth.

My favorite set was the castle, and it seems that one's pretty rare... I saw one on eBay for 150 bucks!  I also had the camper with the boat (which, appropriately enough, we kept at our vacation home) and I had the house, and the barn (you remember the barn, right... with the doors that "mooooooo"ed when you opened them?) and the gas station where the cars would fall down the ramp, only to be cranked up in the car elevator again?  How cool was all that?

I never had the plane or the yacht or the zoo, but I had access to them, because either the daycare or the Mother's Day Out at the church or some friends had them.  I was never at a loss for Little People.

And I'm not at a loss for them now.  Mom and Dad loved the Little People, too (except for the stepping on them part) and they saved all of mine (which are technically my sister's too... so I'm gonna have to fight her.)  So I have a good start of a Little People collection that's about thirty years old.  I think that I've waited about 25 years or so now, though, so I'm going to start buying stuff again.  Perhaps the Day School (which my daycare had... how Meta is that) and the playground might be a good start.  And the carousel that's a music box looks like I must have it, too.

God help me, I don't need a new hobby.

Tim, I had the airplane, and good Lord I played with that thing constantly. My nephew now has it in his bedroom, but with only one little person left...the pilot who was permanently mounted in his pilot's chair.

Little People and Weebils were my favorite things on Earth! Ahhh...the memories!

I must be really old, because almost all of our little people were wooden. And all but one were Caucasian. My Japanese-American friend named the one Black one "Ronnie Ethnic."

We had the Carousel, the Ferris Wheel, and the big amusement park with the grounds printed on a plastic mat. My favorite thing about it was that the bridge turned upside down to become a see-saw.

Suddenly I am feeling that my Barbies may no longer be enough for me.

I played with my Castle until I was far too old to be playing with my Little People. I have a picture of me getting it for Christmas in 1974. I also had the barn (didn't everyone?!), the hospital, the camper, and a Woodsy Tree House, which worked very nicely for my Little People as well, but the best houses were the ones I would create out of shoeboxes or leaves or whatever was around the house. The fact that my mother misappropriated my castle, though, is probably the thing I am most bitter about. I too have been watching Ebay for a perfect replacement. Good luck!

I still have all mine, too! (Ok, technically, my parents still have all mine in the attic in California...)

The castle was my favorite as well. I used to love to drop people down into the dungeon. The hospital was also very cool. (How about that X-Ray, huh?!)

My sister had the Sesame Street set. That was fun, too. I didn't have the parking garage or the car wash.

And even though Weebles were pretty much inferior knock-offs, I have to say, the Weebles Magic Kingdom was pretty cool. I used to zip the monorail all over the place.

Don't feel bad. I'm older than you and the toys I want start at $2,000.

I sell on eBay but I don't let myself look when I'm feeling nostalgic or wanting just that 'one' special thing.

Heh... I hear you. I don't have much connection with Little People, as I never had them when I was a kid, but I have a closet full of various Lego castle and forestmen sets, in addition to a number of them already built and sitting around my family room.

Oooooh buddy, did I have the zoo. And it was the coolest thing EVER. I remember there was a hippo whose mouth opened, and a seal...oh how cool! How you doin', nostalgic thoughts??

Also, Weebles were the BEST. I TOTALLY had Bert and Ernie ones. I was just thinking a little while ago that I wish I still had them, because I would SO collect them.

HA! Not sure how I ran across this ...searching for some odd thing. But it got my attention. I didn't have these for myself (seems I'm the parent generation..haha) but became obsessive about saving all these fisherprice toys that my kids had. We've moved a lot and one thing I could never do was part with their fisherprice toys. Hmm...the school, the barn, the zoo ...I know there are others but it's been so long since I've opened the boxes I can't remember them all. And all the parts are there!. Yah...we oldies had our own favorites, but somehow our kids' toys become our favorite memories too![oh the Barbies!...not only mine but my daughters too...from the 60's through the 80's].
